$20,000 to Improve the Delivery of Pigs and Pork Products
This week, Working Lands Staff and Board Members traveled to Snug Valley Farm in East Hardwick where they spent a lovely afternoon with the Snug Valley Farm family: Helm and Nancy Notterman, their son Ben, and his wife Kelly. Snug Valley Farm received a $20,000 grant in 2014 to purchase a vehicle and livestock trailer for branded marketing, and to purchase and install a walk-in cooler to accommodate on-farm storage for increased pork production.
Their project has allowed them to grow their pastured pork enterprise dramatically. They have increased the amount of piglets sourced, and are now safely storing product on-site, creating many time-efficiencies. The project has also enabled them to attract a second generation to the farm through increased product output and income.
It was a very hot day, but the Board and staff had a really wonderful visit with the family at the farm. Check out the pigs that our Working Lands Intern, Emma Hanson, caught on film!
